Chicago Cubs Finally Get Hands on Championship Rings

Posted on May 4th 2017

The Chicago Cubs recently received their shiny new championship rings tied to their surprising 2016 win - check out the details below....

The Chicago Cubs sealed their victory November 3rd, 2016 but are just now receiving the rings (May 2017.) The ceremony took place at Wrigley Field and was kicked off with a pre-game ceremony where the rings were first given to Cubs owner Tom Ricketts and his family. Along with the championship team, rings were given to a few Hall of Famers – Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins and Ryne Sandberg

Design of the Ring

The design of the rings has a lot of symbolism within it. To signify the 108-year drought ending, there are 108 white diamonds placed around the face of the 14-karat white gold ring. Adorning the ring’s focal point is a ruby-studded “Cubs” logo, with blue sapphires and even more white diamonds strewn about. There’s 214 total diamonds (5.5 karats,) 46 sapphires (2.5 karats) and 33 red rubies (3.0 karats.) Their infamous saying “we never quit” is etched eloquently across the outside of the ring opposite bevel. Inside the ring you will find even more significant references and symbols. On one side is the full record of the series detailing what a huge lead was blown by the Indians to give the Cubs their shot. Another part of the underside is etched with a little goat, which refers to “the curse of the goat” that apparently hung over the heads of the Cubs for all those years.

Company Behind the Ring

The club gave out exactly 1,908 of the rings at a cost of over 100 million dollars - produced by a company called Jostens.. There is now actually an entire jewelry store inside of Wrigley Field called Jostens Jewelry Store at The Park. The company was founded in 1897 and has been at this producing championship rings for the athletic world more than 6 decades. They’ve partnered with a bunch of Chicago teams too – like the Blackhawks, White Sox and Bears.

Fan-Focused Replicas

The real deal rings are estimated to have a value of about $70,000 without considering causal factors outside of the materials like demand which triggers a bidding war. The club included a provision when they gave the rings out – which states any person whom wishes to resell one of the rings in the future is obligated to give the Cubs first-dibs on buying it back at the cost of $1.00, so you’re not likely to ever see too many of these floating around pawn shops and eBay. Never fear - replicas of the Chicago Cubs championship ring are incredibly hot right now and Jostens produces those, too. You can get a Premium Fan Ring for $6,500 – available in 10-karat white gold. It can be customized with your name on the side above a silhouette of the famous “Wrigley’s Field Home of the Chicago Cubs” billboard. If this is too rich for your blood, you can get other neat accessories too such as cuff links with the Cubs logo starting at $699.00. You can also Google “Chicago cubs replica rings” for other options of various price brackets and quality.
